Setting Up Canada Post Shipping Rates

Canada Post Shipping Rates

BuySellBid can show your buyers real-time Canada Post rates at checkout — Regular Parcel, Expedited Parcel, Xpresspost and Priority — calculated live from your origin postal code to the buyer's postal code. To enable this, you need Canada Post API credentials from the Canada Post Developer Program and paste them into your seller dashboard.

The whole setup takes about 15 minutes. There are three steps.

Step 1 — Register for the Canada Post Developer Program

The Developer Program is where Canada Post issues the API keys used for live rate quotes.

  1. Go to the Canada Post Developer Program
  2. Click Sign up and create a developer account (or sign in if you already ship with Canada Post)
  3. Verify your email address
  4. Enter your business and contact information
  5. Accept the API Terms and Conditions

When you register you are given a Customer Number and a pair of API keys — one for development testing and one for production. Save these somewhere safe.

Step 2 — Get your production API key

Your live rate quotes use the production key, which is a username and password pair.

  1. Sign in to the Developer Program dashboard
  2. Open the API Keys section
  3. Copy your production API username and password
  4. Note your Customer Number (also called the mailed-by / paid-by number)

The default access includes the Get Rates (Rating) service, which is what BuySellBid needs to quote parcel prices.

Step 3 — Paste the credentials into BuySellBid

  1. Go to Dashboard → Shipping Setup
  2. Paste your Canada Post API username, password and Customer Number
  3. Set your Ship-From postal code — rates cannot be calculated without an origin postal code
  4. Choose which services to offer (Regular Parcel, Expedited Parcel, Xpresspost, Priority)
  5. Save

That's it. Buyers entering a Canadian postal code at checkout will now see live Canada Post rates from your location to theirs.

Troubleshooting

  • No rates showing? Make sure your Ship-From postal code is set in Shipping Setup.
  • Authentication error? Confirm you pasted the production key, not the development key.
  • Rates look off? Check the parcel weight and dimensions on your listing — Canada Post pricing depends on both.
